March 5 Communication

March 5, 2020 @ 2:08 p.m.

To all employees and current students via email & TSTC Portal

Dear TSTC family,

The health and well-being of the TSTC community is our highest priority. With the arrival of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in the United States, and more specifically in Texas, please rest assured that we are continuously monitoring the situation and receiving updates from health officials daily. We are committed to keeping you informed as the situation evolves by providing updates via emails like this one and on the TSTC Portal.

The College is following the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization.  Those recommendations include suggested steps for people who have traveled recently. Though we’re not aware that anyone in the TSTC family has traveled to impacted locations, if you have traveled to locations considered CDC Level 2 and 3 travel advisory locations for coronavirus we recommend that you self-isolate for 14 days before returning to campus.

As spring break approaches, we want to encourage you to consider how travel plans could be affected by the spread of the virus. Please take the necessary precautions and monitor the public health district website in your community.

The best action you can take at this time is to follow the recommendations of public health officials and wash your hands regularly, avoid close contact with people who are sick and take other preventative measures.

We will work continuously during the coming days and weeks to provide timely information. Again, you can stay informed by consistently checking your email and/or the TSTC Portal for updates.  Our first update will immediately follow this message.

Regards,

-m

To all employees and students via email & TSTC Portal

Dear TSTC family,

As promised, here is our first update:

You may be aware that the Ft. Bend County health department recently confirmed a "presumptive positive" case of COVID-19. It’s important to note that at this time there is no evidence of community spread of the coronavirus in this area. However, out of an abundance of caution we are discouraging any non-essential TSTC business travel to and from the Ft. Bend County campus. Based on current information no other college activities are impacted at this time.

A phone bank has been set up by Ft. Bend Health & Human Services and is available to take calls: 281-633-7795. The phone bank will operate Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

We are working to establish a link on the Portal for FAQs, as well as access to information directly from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization. These resources will assist you so that you can learn more about COVID-19 and the precautions you can take to help reduce the spread of the virus.

Rest assured that we are continuously monitoring the situation and we will provide you with updates as they become available.

Regards,

-m
